A founder who has done B2B sales usually asks a smart question: I already know Apollo and ZoomInfo, can I just use them to find investors? The honest answer is yes, with a workflow attached, and whether that workflow is worth it depends on your time. This guide covers what the big sales platforms do brilliantly, what the investor-specific workflow looks like, and when a purpose-built file is the better buy.

Apollo: arguably the best value in sales tech

Apollo is arguably the best value in the sales-data market: a free tier, paid plans from $49 to $119 per user per month (apollo.io/pricing, as of July 2026), a database of hundreds of millions of contacts, and, crucially, built-in email sequencing. That last part deserves emphasis, because it means Apollo bundles the outreach tooling that pure data products leave you to source separately. For a startup already running outbound sales, Apollo is often the right backbone.

For investor outreach specifically, the workflow is: build your own filters to isolate venture investors from a generalist B2B database, decide which results are actually active check-writers, and verify the emails you pull. That last step is simply good practice with any large generalist database, and catch-all domains deserve particular attention (handling them is one of the core steps of our own published methodology). Budget a re-verification pass before any send.

ZoomInfo: enterprise scale

ZoomInfo is the enterprise standard for B2B contact data, with vendor-stated accuracy commitments and deep integrations. ZoomInfo does not publish pricing; pricing guides published by its competitors Lead411 and Cognism estimate entry contracts around $15,000 per year with multi-seat minimums (lead411.com and cognism.com, as of July 2026), and actual contracts vary. It is built for revenue organizations. Investor coverage exists inside it the way it exists inside any large B2B database: as one persona among millions, with the same filter-and-verify workflow as above at several times the price.

LinkedIn Sales Navigator: prospecting without emails

Sales Navigator ($1,080 to $1,800 per year, per LinkedIn's published plan comparison as of July 2026) is a superb prospecting and research surface with fresh job-change data, and its InMail channel is a real alternative to email. LinkedIn's plan comparison positions it as a prospecting and InMail product rather than an email database (business.linkedin.com, as of July 2026), so users pair it with a separate email finder and verifier. As a complement to any data source, including ours, it earns its fee for LinkedIn-heavy outreach.

Choose a sales platform if

You already run sales ops, you want sequencing and data in one tool, and you have the time to build filters and re-verify. Apollo in particular rewards that investment.

The bottom line for a founder raising now

The sales platforms are built for a job adjacent to yours, and adapting them costs the one thing a raise never has enough of: time. Our database is the finished version of the exact workflow described above, done for you at a specialist's standard: active US VC firms only, a named decision-maker at every firm, personal work emails that passed SMTP verification with catch-all domains excluded plus a second independent verification pass, in a file you own for $497 once. See the database and read the methodology. If you love Apollo's sequencer, the best setup of all is our file loaded into it, within Apollo's import terms: verified investor data in a world-class sending tool.
